I have been tasked with finding someone to weld/braze the brackets back onto this damaged mid 30s hanging tank and I need to know specifically where the rear tab should be reattached.

A previous owner punched a hole in the left rear tank half and attached the tab with a screw and then proceeded to try and braze it in place....without preparing any of the surfaces apparently...the braze barely stuck and when I removed the screw to inspect, it took very little force to break the brazed bond.

I need to know if the tab was supposed to be symmetric, attached to the left or right tank half, and it's position relative to top and bottom edge...? Pictures surely help! ...as I will have to explain what needs to be done to someone that is not familiar with bicycle tanks.

I am interested to know what bike this went to and what the insides are supposed to look like as well. Did it have threaded clamp tabs? ...or do the clamps just mount with screws and nuts? I tried fitting it on a 37 CWC Doublebar frame and it does not match that(too tall), measures roughly 2-3/8" tall throughout. Thinking Snyder made??

@szathmarig

Perhaps show the insides?

The pictures in the thread below show a tank with a more pointed front end, a more square back end, and less fancy louvers.

Does the tank use two screw-on loop-clamps, with both on top? The one slot pictured looks like one of the locations.

Any details on the CWC frame, (design might have had changes about 1937 or so?).

Rollfast picture below may show another possible fastening location;
(what is underneath these slotted holes?).

So, I will answer my own question...
I need the CWC tank on top of picture. I have the Snyder tank. Would trade up or down, or buy the CWC tank outright. Thank you. Howard. 724-205-8172 EST

Looking to trade this NOS pre war (36-40?) Snyder built horizontal louver tank for a vertical louver tank, straight trade or +/- cash depending on condition, black/white OG paint would be great. I also have a colson snap tank to trade if that what your looking for.

Thread '1938 ? Hawthorne zep' https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/1938-hawthorne-zep.35509/

The consensus seems to be that the Rollfast models used the Horizontal Gill(or louver, not for a horn in this case) Tanks. RMS37 points out that 39 was when the anti-rotation clip(tab) at the rear was introduced and calls out the Snyder Built Fastback/Sports frame style...repeatedly correcting those that call them Zep frames.

Does anyone have a 39 Rollfast catalog that shows this rear clip/tab? Also still in need of a cross section view showing if the tab was actually symmetrical or if it opened up wider on one side or the other...
