1891 Gendron No. 1 Juvenile Convertible Hard Tire Safety - Memory Lane Special~

We don't see many nice hard tire safety bikes come up for sale here on the CABE and even fewer to Memory Lane, the smaller juvenile sized HTS bikes are even more difficult to find than your standard models, sure to display nicely with any collection- here's a rare opportunity!

So many HTS bikes were discovered a time when full restoration was the go-to path, rarely do bikes come up unrestored.

This machine was used as a window prop for a bicycle shop in Maryland for decades, it was never offered for sale in all those years and was only made available to me after the shop had closed and the owner decided it was time.

Discovered in original unmolested condition missing just a few vital pieces of gear. I got all the hardware freed up and adjusted properly; it was completely frozen from over a century of sitting. Last photo in listing shows how this bike looked when found for reference.

Lots of great tech that perfectly blends the ordinary with the budding safety bicycle hardware. Adjustable bottom bracket for chain tension, conical axle pedals sans bearings, single ball bearing head and so many more features worthy of close study.
Stylistically a beautiful design with curved down and seat tube as well as removable top tube for convertible potential.

I sourced the "implement" style chain and early saddle which fit like a glove.
Since it had a lamp "spade" mount I found a nice little USA sold "Midget" lamp that fits the diminutive size of this scarce juvenile size HTS.
I found a nice miniature New Departure bell in an early pattern that fits the very narrow bar diameter which would not have suited a later safety bike.
The solid tires were sourced from an ancient wheelchair I found and they fit the size and patina perfectly.
We chat more about my work with the bike, contact me with any serious interest or inquiries.

The wheelset is original, not perfectly true but they display very nicely.

Memory Lane coming up- this offering is exclusively for hand delivery to Memory Lane or pickup here in Richmond, VA.
At this time I am not interested in shipping but I know there is a trailer coming from Cali to ML and it is possible delivery can be arranged.

Always open to possible trade and offers.
Reach out with any serious interest or questions.

Now that's engineering at it's finest. The chain adjustment is a work of art. Glwts but not before I raise the coin

It is difficult to capture the many highly engineered elements of this machine, the bottom bracket is definitely impressive.
It travels on a track which is adjusted by the large bolt shown and then another bolt on the underside secures the bottom bracket in position on the track.

What is really special about this bike is that none of the original hardware is all buggered up by amateur enthusiasts over the years, it really seems to have been ridden for a generation then sit untouched since.
