RUDY CONTRATTI

Wore out three sets of tires already!
Heres my 1939 Elgin Twin 50,( Discussion ) where are the 50 models???.....anywho,I purchased this bike from Mark, and a fine job he did on packing and shipping,,and a grate deal on it also..Everything on this bike was taken apart,Crank Hubs, Head Set, Saddle,Pedals,,switches, and horn unit,,Cleaned,re packed, and put together. Some trial and error,,and what stumped me was there were no holes on the Tank or frame to run my cloth wire from the front control shroud to the battery pod.I had to cut a small hole in the front of the tank(unseen)and run the wires through the tank and out the back of the tank support tube into the battery pod,,(6 Volt screw top Lantern Batt.),and my friend were able to get both horn and light working.Another stumper was the bottom bracket shroud,,which would not stay together on the side screw adjustment,,but Thanks to Frank The Skid King was able to get that in order.I needed the proper Brake Bracket and Mike came through with the perfect Reproduction with hardware. The bike came with a Reproduction Headlight Lens, which I installed ,,,,and a Re Chromed Sprocket. The other Chrome parts were real nice,,so I hand polished the Aluminum Fenders,,and the The Troxel Seat Frame.Very nice set of rims and an eazy rear Elgin hub to tear down and repack.Im not much of bike Hub Cap guy ,,but I added these ribbed caps to finish out a dull front end,,and I liked the Cap to the round rear frame design.A Caber pointed out the ribs on the Air Cooled Hubs matched out with those of the Caps and that did it for me.The tires are very close to NOS Allstates and ride real nice. The paint was beat up so I hit it with some fine rubbing compound and buffed out nice.I did a tad bit of touch up on the Elgin letters, and as you can see on the shroud using a Testors paint pen and lightly working it into the frame just to cover up the Grey Primer underneath.I lightly wipe down all the painted parts with 3 in 1 oil to bring the color out.I feel this is all Original expect for tires. As mentioned any other 50 Twin Bars out there ,,lets see em Please......Thank to @auto1cycle2..@Frank and Pam Skid Kings,@prewarbikesforsale and @whizzer1 for the parts Have A Nice Day

Beautiful, Rudy!
Love it!
I’m not sure, but I think the electrical wire was routed through a conduit that just ran straight from the battery pod to the head shroud between the upper twin bars?
Could be wrong about that?
Most likely am, so if anyone else has the definitive answer to how these magnificent cycles were wired, please do tell?
Either way, it looks clean the way you did it, and it works!
Bravo!
Love the Twin-Bars!

Hello...

The electric cable on Elgin Twin-Bar bicycles was never intended to go through the tank or anywhere that low. No hole was ever intended to be in the tank. All Twin-Bars routed the electric cable under the left-hand top frame tube and attached it with small clips or speedo cable straps (depending on the year), which are usually missing these days.

The headlight lenses for the Twin-Bar 50 and 60 both had special shielding inside the lens to hide the guts (60s had the most). None of the repops I've ever seen have the proper shielding. And the lenses were normally attached with slotted screws rather than with Phillips-head screws.

Also there would not normally be a reflector on the rear fender, but if there was, it would not be round.

I got my first Elgin Twin-Bar 50 about 1975 and have owned one of almost every Twin-Bar model. Got my first Twin-Bar 60 right about the same time and still have it. My 60 keeper is red. My Twin-Bar 50 was stolen when I was robbed 22 years ago. It was green and disassembled at that time.

People who attended Balloonatic meets in Southern California in the 1980s/90s may remember seeing the 1939 movie from my collection that I showed. It was about a boy who got a new red Twin-Bar 60.

I've had fleets of other Twin-Bar models. I still have one extra 1941 Twin-Bar Deluxe which will be available for sale soon. I call these twin-headlight models "Hammerheads" (you can figure out why). This extra one is blue and white, but was repainted by the original owner– who I bought it from around 1974. It has been sitting indoors in storage ever since.

Here are some of my other originals. The last time this Twin-60 was displayed was at a Balloonatic show & swap in Orange, California in the early 1990s.
