Are the tires that you have marked 1.75 or 1 3/4? That 1954 parts list shows both and that's confusing. All Schwinn's lit on the brochures etc. state 1.75 as the tire size from 1954 thru 1957. I'm wondering if the designation showed up as 1 3/4 when the Westwind tire came out in 58.

I thought I got pictures of the 26" Tornado sizes on the tires, but I did not...just the SW Service tire for whatever reason. I believe they were all marked 1-3/4" for S7 though. That 54 catalog insert intrigued me too when I saw the TWO DIFFERENT part numbers for 1-3/4" and 1.75 tires...then go look at the wheel section again, Balloon(2.125") and Semi-Balloon(1-???)! The wheel sections are described as "Constructed with the famous Schwinn Tubular Rim" with a chrome option and the only rear wheel that stands out is the 3 Speed. That must have been for the Tiger and Corvette models, they just weren't calling out the S-7, S-2, or middleweight spec in the insert, just Lightweight, Welterweight, Semi-Balloon, and Balloon.

When the Westwind Tire was introduced in the 1958 Schwinn Dealer Catalog, it was specified as 1.75.

The Schwinn Westwind tire did not exist in the first months of 1957 and, as such, could not have been introduced until 1958, as we see here in the 1958 Schwinn Dealer Catalog. It should also be noted that the Deluxe Hornet, Model Number K19 did not exist in 1957.

So strange to see 1.75" for Schwinn tires...just a comment btw, not a stepping off point.
Now we just need folks to start looking at tire dates again.

I just went out and checked the tire on my original 1955 Corvette. It has one original tornado tire on the rear. It’s marked very small 26 x 1 3/4 for S7 . So WTH is with Schwinn stating the tires are 1.75? They don’t describe their lightweight tires in decimal sizes.
