Well yeah, the black non-butted spokes kinda gave that up. At the very least it has been relaced. I interpreted the question as "Could the Komet be original?", and I just don't know. I think Schwinn used Komets at some point, but I don't remember when. I agree with everyone else that the rims should be S7 rims, even if it turns out they no longer are.
Thank you Bloo,
Yes, that is my question. Did Schwinn use Komet hubs at one time. I know the rims are not original. I apologize if I miss interpreted my
question. Thanks again to everyone for their knowledge.

Hi all,
I have a 1962 26" Double Straight Bar Typhoon.
Will you please let me know what rear hubs came with the bike?
I know they had single speed and two speed hubs.
Mine has an F & S Komet Super
Thanks again,
Ron
This should help. The site doesn't let U link the photos but, is showing Komet Super hub and the brake arm says: "Schwinn Approved" IDK much about them or when made but it claims late 50's early 60's. In that case then, yeah, your bike does not have the correct hub. Link: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/schwinn-approved-komet-super-coaster-128444911

Hey @Rusty Klunker , is the "Schwinn Approved" hub another Sachs hub that is basically identical to the Komet?

Honestly I don't know. I'm partial to the kick back 2 speeds and in the last 45 years I've hardly worked on any single speeds. Before that it was mostly bendix hubs. I'll be taking it apart for a good cleaning in the next few months so I'll see then. All it says on the brake arm is Schwinn approved.

I just had both a Komet Super and a Schwinn Approved hub apart.
The Schwinn Approved version is larger in diameter with 52 vs 50mm hub flanges.
The bearings are larger, and the internals will not swap.
I have no doubt that the Schwinn hubs were made by F&S, but they don't appear to be Komet Super models.
The hub on the left came from a 20" Schwinn S6 wheel, the right hub was laced to a chrome 26" S7 rim.
I can't say if either were completely factory wheels. Both wheels came from an old bike shop cleanout.

The only markings on the Schwinn Approved shell is "Germany".
The oil port is smaller on the Komet Super hub.
The Schwinn hubs appears to be somewhere in between the Komet Super and the larger Torpedo coaster brake hubs.
