Some slightly upsetting news the front wheel is not original šŸ˜‘ā€¦.it is a side stamped 69 s-7
….it was the only item on the bike I was suspecting might not be original…however I am VERY confident the rear is correct center stamped s-2. On a positive note despite the s-7 looking like it was at the bottom of the ocean at some point it cleaned up fairly nice šŸ˜Ž

The reverse read side stamp S-7 first appeared around May / June of 1965.
Your S-7 rim is absolutely correct. Not sure why that 69 axle is there?

Here are a few of my ā€˜65 Survivors showing their factory S-7 rims.
My EA Coppertone still has the center stamp S-7.
I have two FA Stingrays with the reverse stamp S-7. This Violet shows it’s stamp.
My HA Lime shows it’s reverse stamp.

Ok awesome! That’s great news….I’ll have to track down a 65 axle but definitely good to know the rim is the correct one. Those are some great looking bikes man….hell of a nice collection you got!

Schwinn ā€œQualityā€ chrome.

I’ve always been amazed how well the chrome cleans up on a Stingray.
The Schwinn chrome process was made to last and after 60 years the chrome on this ā€˜65 S/D proves it does.
That springer and the two fenders will also clean up nicely.

On an Original Survivor such as this bike the best way to clean the 60 years of crud off the spokes is the pads shown below.
The factory finish is long gone on these spokes, but these pads will make them more presentable.

Making progress on your S/D, awesome.
That white tufted saddle looks much better.

Seeing your HA Violet frame laying there with the long kick stand reminds me of the several differences between the short frame and long frame Stingrays.
Short frame (1963 thru first quarter of ā€˜65).
Long frame (second quarter of ā€˜65 & beyond).

A quick look at the frame, crank and kick stand shows the difference.

Ooooh no. What happened to the original chain guard screening?
If you are referring to the different shade around the lettering that’s where I carefully wiped the paint around the lettering but in between it’s still just dirty. Didn’t want to risk getting close to the lettering so it’s still just dirty compared to the paint I was able to clean that’s all
