Excellent bike.
Here's my old 68' super sport with perfect paint for comparison.... Same.

Schwinny,

Yes, good comparison of the ‘68 Radiant Sky Blue Stingray and your ‘68 Super Sport.
Thank you for posting that beautiful SS.
It’s obvious that these above bikes were in good hands and not subjected to harsh hot elements.

A few Schwinn changes took place in 1967.

The seat post tube decal got a New look.
My Violet ‘66 KB shows the old decal, which I prefer.
My Sky Blue ‘68 has the new style decal, simple.

An article in the Schwinn Reporter explains the need for cadmium components on various Schwinn bicycles.
My ‘68 has a few of these cadmium plated items (Seat post clamp, bolt, nut. Rear fender brace. Kickstand).

Ask the FB professionals about pedal dates and get back to me.
@60sstuff Ha, love it. I happened to stumble across a set of boys pedals this weekend at a swap meet. The guy selling them had them marked "66 no stars" and then proceeded to tell me there were a 66 only only pedal. I'm familiar with earlier pedals and the dimpled 65 pedals, but not these. Maybe I've never noticed but these have the typical Schwinn cross on the end caps, but don't have the little stars stamped around the outside of the cross. They also have a stamp on the shaft similar to yours only it looks like a small "4" and a larger "7". Maybe 1967? See pics attached.
As always Chris, I love the high-res clear photos and the attention to detail. Such a beautiful example of a Sky Blue Sting Ray. Keep em coming.

67 was one year only, no stars on the caps, nice score. Same pedal for 68-70 with the stars

Seller was wrong, completely different pedal in 66, those you bought were first year of that design

I'd agree you have "4 7" stamping which suggests 4Q67 dated pedals

Hey John,

Very late 1966 and ‘67 full size pedals on the Stingray had crimped end plates to hold the rubber blocks from spinning.
The outer plate dome did not have the stars. This pedal is considered a one year (67) pedal.
Then in 1968 the outer dome had the stars.

Below are a few samples I have showing the difference.
NOS ‘67 are dated 37.
Nice used ‘67 are dated 27.

John, Thank you for the compliment.
I try to share what knowledge I have on the Stingrays with photos whenever I‘m able.

Chris

Here is the original front tire on my original 1967 Coppertone, a Tornado tire shown in first photo. That's the way it came out of the factory. Just dug this bike out of a 20 year or so storage along with some other bikes, some of which I may be selling soon.

Chris, you have seen at least two of those bikes maybe 20-25 years ago. You were next to me at Semonian Farms at about 5AM when I bought the coppertone bike off the back of the sellers truck before the gates were open. While I was buying that bike you were making a deal on a Flam Lime Slik Chik the guy also had. The blue 1965 I remember pulling it out of the back of my van when you came over one day to look at some Krates and Krate parts at my house. You were pretty much all Krates back then and were not interested in it back then. Got your PM, I will let you know what is going on with the bikes pictured. Thanks.

Sorry, but I’m getting old, so I’m going to guess this Mike has the last name of Taylor ??

Simonian Farms was one Awesome bicycle swap meet. Great people, great bikes, plus the inside of that store has the best bicycles of all makes and models on display.
I do remember an early ‘64 Terra Cotta standard outside before the gates opened one year.

Yup, I was all about Krates early on, until I wised up and started hunting the better prize ….. 63-65 short frame Stingrays.
