Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
I came across this rough 1980 HD. It oddly has no build date on the badge and it had a ‘78 stamped stem and correct C stamped ‘78 crank, ‘78 bars I think it is a ‘78 stamped fork. Also the pedal have union caps not schwinn stamped. Did Schwinn stop stamping pedals on later models. It is odd and doesn’t add up having ‘78 parts on an ‘80 bike seems like along time for parts to sit unused. I prefer the Kool Lemon yellow as opposed to this later yellow maybe called Maize yellow or something like that. I’m going g to kick the fenders down the road and make a beach cruiser out of this one.

There is no date code stamped into that badge because it not original to the bike, it was swapped out at some point in time! As for the rest, the bike is in pretty rough condition overall, and it is hard to say why the date codes on the parts are different. Did it come with the OE fenders? 1980 was the only year that they used painted fenders to match the bike.

The badge maybe but the thinking that someone changed out a matching paint set of 78 forks a 78 stem and a 78 set of handlebars along with a 79 set of tires is preposterous.

Again, I must mention again the thought that someone would have stripped this bike if it’s original parts and then applied older exact matching parts is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

I agree. But it is hard to explain why it has all 78 parts on a 1980 frame? Did the front wheel have the small flange Union/Chair hub, or the large flange ACS?

If it was truly a 1980 model, it would have had yellow fenders!
