That's not how I saw the situation. He was dealing with a seller that was giving him incorrect conflicting information. It was proved that the bike couldn't be a 1980, the rear wheel was incorrect, and the price was over the value so he was no longer interested in that bike

OK well that is one version. He was the one giving the incorrect information and was not listening when we tried to give him the correct him. The thread should have been 5 posts long but he insisted on ignoring the answers he asked for and dragging it out. At no point did he admit to giving us the wrong information, maybe you had a private conversation with him where he admitted that. The private message I received was rude and uncalled for.

In addition, the fenders seen in the photos look correct for 1974 but wrong for 1980 (not to mention that by 1980, the rear Sting-Ray fender had sprouted that ugly rear reflector bracket on it, instead of mounting the reflector under the end of the seat as God intended it to be).

My take on it was that it's simply a 1974 with a replacement seat in an odd choice of color. The stem and pedal crank castings will no doubt show a 1974 casting date as well.
