Advice on lacing a ‘34 “Schwinn” ladies skirt guard

Easier to lace, but guard on outside looks cleaner i.m.o. ... not sure what factory was..
 
It seems more natural with the guard on the inside like this, when putting it all together. As well the lacing matches the opposite side. When the guard is in the outside it is sort of bent outward and kind of flopping around it seems. Though it may not be how it presented from the factory as @markivpedalpusher pointed out before. It would sure be nice if we had an example that was positively unmolested.

Second bike sold at auction a few year ago looks like an unmolested survivor. Seems to be consistent with the b&w photo I posted earlier in the thread.

That's even a little different with dropstand also inside guard...🤔
Mine didn't work to good like that..
 
The drop stand would definitely need to be outside the guard, at least according to the illustration. I believe that it is more functional as well.
