Up for sale is an April 1980 schwinn sting-ray ii boys bike. All original except it’s missing rim strips and one of the other tubes is off brand. Includes original schwinn westwind tire and a rear gripper slick. Front rim is assembled with loose balls and fresh parktool grease. Headset is upgraded to loose balls with fresh grease too. And bottom bracket has new cadges and grease. Front wheel spoke has been replaced and the nipple is flat black, And frame has been waxed. rear wheel coaster brake (shimano d) has not been assembled yet and needs new cadges. I left the small and large cadge for reference for replacement. Rear wheel needs a spoke to be be filed a bit as it is poking out or a thick rim strip will take care of it. Seat has a tear and a couple pin holes but very good. Overall this is a great bike if you are not looking to put too much cash to fix a sting-ray. Sale will be conducted in lobby. Address 4000 Massachusetts avenue NW 20016. I would prefer a trade preferably a unrestored vintage muscle bike (any brand or model will do) otherwise $450 cash OBO. Thanks for looking!

Don’t know much about stingrays, but loose bearings is an upgrade? Didn’t know that…always learning something new…

The Sting-ray II is a "Junior" frame, also the 4-digit on the head badge build date is 1770 making it June 25, 1980.

I looked up the frame number and it was made in April according to the date lookup page. Learned something new!

Yes, cadges cause a little more friction and less balls. More loose balls = more support/smoothness

Bought this stingray in hopes of restoring but too small for any of my kids to ride. So I want to trade for something larger and hopefully a shifter! Just something to complement my Ross.

The date stamp on the headbadge is the build date, it’s a Julian date code, the first three letters are the build date - 177 = June, last date is the year - 0 = 1980 , so the correct date is June 1980, not April

I looked at the frame number on the head tube. And looked it up on the schwinn lookup page. Sorry if I’m wrong.
