Thanks fordmike65. Wow. That's a cool looking bike! The man in the picture (now 79 years old) thinks he got the bike for his 9th birthday, which would make it a 1949 model. But the images of the 1949s & 1950s that I can find don't seem to have the same seat and / or light. I think you're right that it's a 1951. Thoughts?

I think it might be the Hiawatha version, same CWC built but had different fenders and in that pic ( hard to tell ) the fenders look different. WF Super fenders are not striped and are cut flat at the back of both fenders. also had embossed guard ( Hiawatha ) and this is difinetly earlier than ad ( 49-50 ) because it has the earlier rack ( no blinker switch on frame, no blinkers, bobbed back tail lite & straight legs ) & springer with straight rods below springs. I think the tank did not have chrome and ( I think ? ) it came in a Hawthorne version. ask him what stores in his town, Gambles, Western Auto, MW but I'm thinking Gambles Hiawatha.

The black and white has a different chainring than the color ad picture? Either way very cool bike!

think somebody got a car and bike promotion. fenders are CWC which is usually Roadmaster or western flyer .Yet behind the bike is a 1949 Buick Roadmaster.
Potentially pretty rare bike. A CWC special dealer' buy car get bike free promotional deluxe roadmaster with shockmaster fork and streamline tank.

Your community really is awesome. Thanks everyone. I don't actually have the bike so I can't get clearer pictures or of the other side. That may be the next step. I'll continue to narrow the identification based on your knowledge. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a national cycle association that had a history of US bikes with information on different manufacturers and a database of styles & years. It would make a great museum somewhere.
