The period around the turn of the 20th century was steeped in innovative design in the field of bicycles and adjustable handlebars were a popular accessory for engineers and bicycle mfgs to focus their efforts.
The term "adjustable handlebar" does pose an issue in terminology as what is now the standard two piece bar and stem is indeed adjustable. Prior to that standardization many handlebars were described as adjustable because the stem and bar were not one piece.
In lieu of that style / era of handlebar I am primarily trying to compile mechanically adjustable handlebar / stem combos.
Many adjustable handlebars of the late 19th and early 20th century are represented throughout the forum but to my knowledge there is not a dedicated database thread showing the many varieties together. No time like the present!
Ideally I would like to limit this thread to period advertisements which so artfully show the distinct forms of adjustable handlebar.
If you have a set of adjustable bars that are of a completely different form than what you see here or what you have found in literature I would welcome you to post them.
I will kick this party off with some of my archive, I would love to see what you other bicycle scholars have dug up!
