i thought i was the only one...

I have been saving bearings and bearing cups like they were gold back in the mid 1990s...as you and i know these come in handy when rust ridden bearing races and cups are seized.....and on og paint bikes it makes no sense to use og equipment that is plain and simple....trash....i save mounting bolts and washers, and kickstands, and cups, and chains, and tires and headsets etc....old school thing to do....but i love getting a bike that seems trashy to some and salvaging what ever i can....it adds precious parts time and enjoyment to the hobby...

I save most everything, and find uses for most of it! If we threw out people that weren't very good...this would be a very lonely planet indeed!

old parts

I used to like to have an inventory of old parts so I could fix a bike with parts of the proper patina- may have several of the same part in diff condtions so I could blend in a repair

Well Mr. Fleetwood, that Raleigh I cut up was a 1974...not exactly a choice cut collectors item and I didn't have time to fight the stuck crank bearing cup. Now, I did cut a 1978 AMF muscle bike but that was a girls frame and I trashed it by accident in my early days of classic bicycle restoration.

I save Huffy parts, because I've found my calling. Huffy tanks, racks, correct hardware, salvageable wheels, etc. All are shelved. But any other bike is fixed and resold or parted out. Can't save them all and don't have the room nor the money.

Speaking of which, I need to reduce a Super Stock I'm parting.
