Finally riding a big boys bike
Just picked up this old Elgin. Head badge is gone, but there is a sticker on the seat post tube that says, "Sears... model 501-166". Also, under the crank there's a serial number, from the best I can tell, it's "E91898"... also under the crank, but apart from the serial, there's a "G7".
Seat post frame tube is slightly curved, bike appears to have a Stewart Warner floating hub, bike has a truss rod bracket (but truss rods are apparently missing) and there are two holes in the top of the front fender (apparently had a headlight, but is missing).
I've searched around the CABE as well as in my Elgin book and have seen a lot of 1940's lady's Elgins that look very similar, but have not yet found an exact match with this combo of frame, fenders, chain guard and rack.
I'd like to know the year, what type of headlight and grips it originally came with (photos please) and any other notes.
Thank you!!!
