On Training Wheels
Just acquired an man's Elgin with star chain wheel, and 25" diameter by 1-1/2" wide rims. Bike appears to have original long spring seat, head badge, correct pedals, and luggage rack. Would appreciate info on correct tire size, and any other info such as when produced. Thank you!

Thanks for the request! Pics are as found today.

I just checked the math, 28” x 1-1/2” tires, minus their 1-1/2” width twice (i.e., -3”), would measure about 25” for the wood or lined rims.
As for date, maybe compare the serial number or code letter to other Snyder built motorbikes; i.e., A-12,345; B-23,456; C-32,456; etc..
Some others may have advice on estimating via stamping on the rear hub?
Likely early 1930’s, based on the Elgin name, the badge, and the make/model.

28x1-1/2" tubular tires.

Your options are not many, however your Elgin is a beautiful machine and looks like it would be a blast to ride.

Find a set of original tires in somewhat decent shape, most likely for display only.

Robert Dean tires.

Keep the original wheels and have a set of 700c clinchers built that you can run 700 x 38c tires on, which measure out at 28x1-1/2" like many of us do who ride our old bikes daily or often.

Both of these have modern rims and tires on them.
