Wore out three sets of tires already!
Yea, out of respect and and their nice derailleurs (heh heh). I usually always try to buy myself a bike on my birthday (70th, ouch) which was today, had a great day and dinner tonight. I keep a list of bikes out there I see on the net or call around to see if anyone near me has anything for sale. These bikes were on Craigslist for a while so I contacted the seller yesterday, nice guy, negotiated a price and picked them up today. Great bikes, Men's is a Dec 1971 and has a Barbers Schwinn Livermore CA sticker and Livermore license. Women's is a Sept 1975 with a Neils Schwinn Anaheim bike sticker. Looks like the bikes were recently serviced with new tires and tubes put on. I got them home, aired up the tires and both bikes ride, shift, and brake real well. Wheels are near perfect S6's. It amazes me how little these sell for as they are high quality bikes. These were had for the cost of a couple of the Kenda tires on there (not much). I just sold a 72 Varsity a few weeks ago I had listed on here that was ridden a few times, looked NOS, sold for $95. Think I may keep these intact for a while, or until I get a bike that needs a derailleur. I enjoy riding the women's bike a whole lot more with those tourist type bars than the men's with those drop down/racing type bars on them. The old man needs to get some sleep now.

Happy birthday! Yup, the days of me riding drop bars ended some years ago due to neck issues. I hit 67 myself a week ago but didn't acquire any new bikes but I guess there is no statuate of limitations on getting a bike for a birthday! ;)

I keep thinking about a nice 40s or 50s Schwinn 3 speed lightweight. One of my main riders is a 64 Coppertone Traveler and those three gears are perfect for life in flat Alameda.
