That blue seat probably is original. S seats in general seem to fade to colors over time that do not much resemble what they were originally. When you turn it upside down, you may see something closer to the color it was. The Brooks is beautiful. Good choice!

Now that's some replacement! It's definitely not weather beaten so I can't take any blame for that! 🤣

That blue seat was maybe a one year only that was used in 73 on some Opaque Blue models. In 74 they replaced it with black seats, other than the Bantams.

One year only? What did they give you on a 1960 Typhoon?

Most likely a similar seat but a different color that somewhat matches the paint. Opaque Blue was a pastel color. The early Tornado used Chinese Blue as the color name and probably the same color as Spitfire Blue. That seat doesn't match the Tornado, but it sure does match his waste bucket. 🤣

I thought the old blue monogram seat might have faded so I took the cover off. It’s even lighter blue underneath (because the top of the seat is dirty). It’s even more apparent in person than in the photos. Everyone that sees it says, “Cool bike! What’s up with the seat?” None of my Schwinn seats really match the bikes they’re on, but I’ve concluded that this seat is a replacement. If anyone happens to have an opaque blue ‘73, they’re welcome to have this old blue seat.

I have countless vinyl Mesinger seats and all of them turn darker in color and I've never seen one that actually faded to a lighter color.

I really don’t like ruining originality of an old bike even if it is already kind of a beater, so I went looking around the interwebs. Found about 10 old 1960 Schwinn Tornados- none even had a monogram seat. Blue seat’s not original. I don’t have an issue changing something that isn’t original anyway, so I’m off to find the proper clamp to attach the Brooks.

You’re not kidding. Took it for a little ride last night. Since I just went through the bike everything is tight with no rattles- but that seat squeaks like crazy. An old Brooms saddle would be nice!
Or an old BOOKS saddle. like we used to call them back in the day. Fun any way. Enjoy and ride on. Razin.
