Cruisin' on my Bluebird
Here's a killer TOC 1897 men's William Read & Son Hanover out of Boston, MA. This scorcher features all original dark green paint (at first glance it appears black, but it's dark green) and decorative filigree, as well as original nickel throughout. Frame size is 24". This bicycle will benefit greatly from a cleaning and polish as I have done neither. The original nickel on this bicycle has some loss and patina, but will shine up if that is what you want. The 28" wheels are in nice shape but could use a slight truing. The tires, made of closed-cell urethane foam, were manufactured by my father in the 90s as a replacement for difficult-to-source single-tube pneumatic tires. They are lightweight, rideable, and will never go flat. Both hubs are clean and feature oiler ports. The original chain adjusters are present, as is the original mounting peg. The crank and chainring show nicely with some original nickel present. Nice matching pedals are straight and spin freely. The block chain is clean and free-moving but could use some lubrication. The leather grips are in good shape and complete with all metal ferrules intact. The men's leather Sager saddle has some leather loss, but is still functional. A trouser clip is even present, clipped onto the fork crown (see pic #6). The serial number is 37824 (William Read & Sons manufactured New Mail highwheel ordinaries and hard tire safeties long before the advent of the pneumatic safety).
