I’m just going to say it, the search function on the site sucks. It can’t deal with even slight differences in spelling. The tricky part was Mongeese said “have Phil Wood set” but titled his sale thread Phil Woods. It totally makes sense to all of us, Wood vs Woods same deal, but the search function just chokes on it and gives up. 🙁

Back to this.

I finally got a 26.3 race for my champion and finally got a few minutes to start the build.

This thing is tight! I can’t seem to get it on and the 27 is loose. The powder coat started to come off of do I removed it. I don’t really want to shim.

What do you all suggest?

Thanks!

Looks like you have all the right stuff. When you pound on it with the PVC pipe it should seat. Powder coat coming off there is ok. I would keep pounding. 😃

Well ok, but let it be known I swing a hammer for a living and was hitting this as hard as can be with solid backing! It went on a bit and a little crooked but I’ll give it another go!

Thanks!

So I ground down the crown race and beat it on it set not perfect but close so I decided to install the fork at least to check it out.

I’m guessing I have a wrong headset? Not enough threads for the lock washer top nut. What headset do I have here? The sealed bearings don’t seem to come out of the cups and they set differently in each cup.

I was going for gold and red color way what headset should I get?

Thanks all certainly appreciated.

Looks like it's the steer tube length that's the issue. I've managed to squeeze a few millimeters out by using a shorter Schwinn Deluxe headset, but that doesn't seem appropriate here.
My hopes are slim for finding a headset in gold that is short enough. I think Tange makes some headsets with a shorter stack height. You'll still end up with something like 4 threads of engagement for the top nut.

Thanks for the reply...its a Neco headset I bought from BMXmuseum. I have a Schwinn deluxe headset yeah it seemed like it would be a good fit. Now the question is why is the steer tube that short?

I'll look into other sets...

Thanks again!
