Memory Lane Spring 2025 ... Sure will be a year to remember! ... WoW!!
I did not see a discussion on the BMA Bicycle Museum of America and the 49 Bicycles that they brought for Sale on Thursday morning 4-24-25.
I had been up early in the morning, getting ready for the day and awaiting the arrival of the BMA truck with bicycles. The truck arrived early with the driver unloading the bicycles for everyone to see.
But, no prices.
The driver said those in charge will be arriving soon with the prices, just about the time every bicycle was unloaded, those in charge from the BMA arrived.
Now here is the part that I felt was not fair to those interested in purchasing a bicycle.
Keep in mind this was not an Auction this was a Sale.
First one to ask a price is the "Winner" and new owner.
Two to a few guys interested in a particular bicycle standing there don't have a chance at it, already SOLD.
There were some very nice bicycles that they had available for the public to purchase and the prices were very fair, negotiable on those that were still available later in the day.
One bicycle in particular available was a 1973 Schwinn Sting-ray "Orange Krate", Original Paint Bicycle, Sunset Orange, Disc Brake but the bicycle had a later chrome safety chain guard with factory silk screen guard and a 1968 orange line knobby rear tire. A few of the Sting-ray guys were very interested but discussing what was not correct and wondering what the price may be?.
Well when I had first seen this bicycle being unloaded, I recognized it and was amazed that it would be available. This '73 Orange Krate came from the Chicago Schwinn Museum, as I remember James Hurd, the curator, bring this particular bicycle with him to many bicycle displays that he would attend. Detroit Autorama display and the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village on Fathers Day weekend, where he was the narrator for bicycles, were just a couple of the places I remember seeing this bicycle.
The bicycle was SOLD for $2500.00 to the first one that asked the price.
Here are some photos I took ... Enjoy!
Thank You BMA, Ryan & Crew for making it possible!
