Monark Super Twin ???

I’ve seen super twins with headlights mounted on the front fender usually

looks like it may be a ‘49 with headlight mounted on front fender. There should be a serial number tag under the bottom bracket and the last 2 digits should be the year.

Again... 1949 is not the only year for a black & orange color Monark Super-Twin. And ALL 1949-1952 Super-Twins were standard with a fender-mounted headlight. UNLESS one ordered the deluxe model was ordered (there were TWO different Super-Twin models– something people today don't know). If the deluxe model was ordered, this came with a special version of the Hall "Bi-Lite" that differed slightly from the Whizzer version.

As for the battery-operated fender-mounted headlights... there were THREE of them (as in 3 different types)... and today almost all are missing along with their mounts. So whether a fender light is present or not in a photo is still not a defining fact.

And again, we have ALL of the dealer literature, owner's manuals, parts books, sales materials, hang tags, etc. etc. for the Monark Super-Twin. And we have owned lots of Super-Twins over the years.

Beautiful first series Super-Twin. Original paint and pedals. Original saddle. However original choke rod and knob appear to be missing... and replaced by a bent wire. Headlight is not original and has been changed. Also a foreign generator (assume for the headlight) has been added. Speedo does not look like an original either. Otherwise, a beautiful original survivor! VERY nice and a serious bargain at that price!

Hello...

1949 Super-Twin would have been equipped with a painted ball-type headlight made by Delta Electric. That was quickly replaced by a chrome plated ball-type headlight made by Northeast Tool & Die for 1950-51. There was also another. Hope this helps.
