Best of luck in surgery tomorrow, Mike. I spent 8 hours today at Hines VA Hospital and thank God my health problems are small, compared to some of my fellow vets I seen being wheeled around that place today. Regarding the folks that stand at the entrance to the swaps or sometimes actually out on the street to get the first crack at bikes and parts piled into the back of incoming vendor's trucks. . . . I agree, that is a great way to get the best stuff, but it can really be aggravating to the sellers. I used to regularly haul large loads of long hoarded goodies to swaps and I know what it's like to be inundated while still out on the street, trying to scope out the open swap spaces, deciding where to park. Have to admit, though I've never cornered anyone before pulling in, I have pounced on trucks the second they "land." It's excitement at its best to be the first to root through the piles of rusty, virgin gold, but some folks don't think it's fair. I've seen some guys, both sellers and buyers get hot and go at it, right off the bat. From my end , as a seller, I cut no deals to the early birds. I always place stickers with prices on every bike or part I sell, before going to a swap. I know what stuff is worth and have no problems putting prices on it. As I'm pulling in, I'll hear,"How much on this , what ya got on that....? If they see a price, I'm not even outta the truck and some of these clowns are already starting their spiel to beat my price down. I love their faces as I they approach my truck and I yell out, " Being that your bugging me, before I even get unloaded, the price you pay is the price that's on the tags. No deals! And.... don't think you're going to stand around my truck with your thumbs up your ass! Start untying stuff and help me unload!" It's great, because I hear several guys [ and one particular lady] saying, " Yeah, yeah, sure. No problem, tinker....." Yes, it's always best to be the "early bird." I've never bought off this Craig's list thing and only bought once off eBay. I love swaps, as a buyer and a seller. It's fun.
