Question for the SME’s , did Schwinn ever offer a Phantom with with 5 sided nuts and bolts or did they exclusively use 6 sided nuts and bolts?

Hex nuts, and Pan Head bolts and Machine Screws. Usually internal star locking washers.

And what in the hell is a 5 sided nut and bolt? Pretty sure schwinn never used such a thing, and what would they possibly have used it for? Something so no one could ever take it apart

Yes but one year only and exclusively on the boys Blue Phantoms models. We called them TJ nuts because they were 5 cents each to replace them.

Utilities used them (water & electric), very close to a 3/4" with 1/2" hardware.
