Interesting stuff, and the article does state that T.I. were using the 'Meteor' name originally from 'Starley and Sutton', back in the 1880's, which became the 'Rover Meteor'; they may have acquired the name when Rover stopped making cycles, and concentrated on motorcycles (briefly) and cars.

Yes- left over 1950s style Phillips levers. They were a common part on old 3 speed bikes. They work well when cleaned and given a good setting up.
