@Miq very true. I've run over some formidable branches hidden under snow. But the road salt is absolutely brutal on a bike. One ride can turn your chain into a rusted pretzel. You really need a beater bike for winter riding, preferably made from aluminum.

'79 Schwinn Spitfire. Started life as a 5 speed, now converted to single speed. Frame and rear hub are the only stock parts. The rest is all BMX goodies from various eras. The dealer sticker from Billy's Boat & Bike Corral cracks me up.

Swapped out my Klunker parts onto my '35 Roadmaster frame. Electra 3 spd wheel set on Deli 26x2.125 knobbies (measure 2.25 actual), Mongoose CRMO crank, modern platform pedals, 20 tooth front sprocket, 11 tooth Ichi-bike rear sprocket, Diamond 1" pitch chain, Cheapo chrome fork, Evil Ed dual clamp stem, Interam solid aluminum bars, Old school grips, Nexus trigger shifter, 13/16 layback seat post, and Avenir gel seat.

Received a set of CMC rims with heavy-duty spokes and knobby tires in a trade, so decided to try and klunk this '58 Jaguar frame i'd had laying around. The project has stalled and now I think I'd just rather buy more old mountain bikes instead.
