Not sure if this was shared before so here goes. This is me in 1974 on my 1949 ballon tire Schwinn in Grandview , MO. It is a very heavy bike and was very tough to throw around. !
Tom, Curious if you got the idea on your own or from the Marin County crew or the Crested Butte crew, I think it was right about the same time frame....I see you kept the fenders on...

We were BMX riding and amateur racing from 72 here in KC area because of attending MX races with our neighbor. He had been racing his Penton since 1972 so we were already in to it. And once a "real" track opened in fall 1974 (this one in Grandview), things took off.
Not sure who the groups were you mentioned but likely they were more downhill types maybe? Pretty flat here in KC. :):)

They were both Klunker riders, you're correct, they were down hill racers until Gary Fisher decided to gear up one of the 26"ers and started the mountain bike craze. Good story!
