Can anyone provide more information on this Elgin Bicycle? We found this gem in my grandparents home. I adore vintage and antiques, but bicycles have never been my enthusiasm. This bicycle has my curiosity peaked! We are trying to decide what are family keepsake items and what to send onto a new journey so I would love any information from anyone more knowledgeable than I am on this. Thank you!

In the later 1930's Sears retail bought bicycles from manufacturers Murray and Westfield.
This one looks to be a Westfield built. 1937-B/D

Reflector pedals are incorrect, chain guard is probably an aftermarket replacement, those things are an easy relatively inexpensive fix. The rear luggage carrier (rack) is an accessory upgrade that works well with the bike which is definitely a plus. Overall, that is a super nice bike and I'd call it a keeper !

Agreed, I'd call that one a keeper as well. I think it's beautiful, even though not entirely "correct". One thing I would do, is to move the seat up by raising the seat post. It looks like the first time someone sits on the seat, it will scratch the paint on the top bar.

Thank you all for your help! I don’t see myself tackling the project of proper restoration (I prefer late 1800s real estate and furniture!!) but I thoroughly enjoy reading up on the history, which I believe will be the extent of my relationship with this Elgin, lol. I am going to check with family members because I do want to find it a good home. If I would decide to sell it, any recommendations on the best way to do so?
