😍 First gen BD is the coolest BD! Army green swoopy frame!

Thanks. It was a happy accident that I got this frameset: I was looking for seriously any longtail that I could set up for carrying human cargo (and wouldn't have to drive 100+ miles to a place like NYC) that I could get for a reasonable price. A guy an hour north of me had this medium sized frameset with dummy rails and wideloaders for either $400 or $500 (I forget). Less than half the price of a new frameset, at any rate.

Anyway, I see you're a Surly rider as well. Cool single speed MTB. Clean build, with just the right amount of silver bits popping against the murder black look. As I'm tackling more challenging trails, I'm considering upgrading my '80s MTB to a modern bike. Surly is one of the few companies making steel MTBs with modern geometry, but with non-suspension forks, although they're suspension-corrected, so upgrading to front squish is always an option. Yeah, I've become a fan of Surly, for sure. Living in the northeast, I'd kinda like a fatbike for the snow, and Surly kind of invented that, if I have my facts straight. So many options, so little money...

Stopped off for a curbside pickup at the grocery store on the way home from picking the kids up from school.

And yes baskets rule--they make virtually any bike useful. Or in this case, more useful.
Nice bike! Cute cargo! I see that your Surly has the front basket mounted to the fork. My son rides a Yuba with the basket mounted to the frame as shown below (there's often a grandkid on the back). When trying out this bike I thought that the frame mount was better for balance but, because I only had experience with fork mounts, every time I turned and the basket kept going straight it gave me the yips. My son assured me that it didn't take long to get used to the basket. Have fun!

Thanks and thanks! The frame mounted carriers are certainly a step up. Surly chose not to go that route, and truthfully, the basket I used was just sitting around. I installed it one day after shopping with the kids, and picking up (among other things) a bag of tortilla chips. They didn't get crushed, but I figured they'd ride better up front. As for the weirdness of frame mounted baskets, yeah, I know what you mean. My Brompton has a frame mounted bag (detachable for when folded). I don't use it often, and it's weird every time.

Speaking of Bromptons, I used to use mine often for shopping.

Yes, all of the groceries in this basket came home with me on the bike folded up in the carriage. It looks like more than it is because the front mounted carrier is buried under the food:

Before I had the "official" Brompton front carrier. The staff at this restaurant actually held the door open for me to ease my egress from the place:
