Before you think too hard about bending it back, just let me say, these things are pretty tough to bend AT the bend! The ones I've seen bent were arced or kinked in the middle of the straight area or where the crank comes in contact with the kickstand...I also imagine the stoutness of the kickstand is the reason why we have seen some of the kickstand housings snapped off of the frame.
They had plenty of different angles for different part numbers to match the frame and tire size. I would certainly focus on finding what number is in it and I'll post the spec sheet of what it is supposed to have shortly...

Dad and I did bend one years ago to match a custom chopped and lowered frame. It's too tough to do accurately on the bike, so we removed from the housing, removed the hardware, and chucked it in the vise. Then heated red hot, shaped, and cut to new length before reassembling and eventually replating.

Sorry, I thought I would find the King Size model specs in my 64 or 65 Equipment Specifications Catalogs, but neither of the King Size models are listed there. This is what was available in the Parts Catalog in 65.

I don't think I've ever seen a kickstand stamped 8300 or 8301, so they probably weren't stamped in 1965. I could be wrong though.
I would go measure the length and angle of my KS Kickstand, but I know the one on my bike has been changed out...and there isn't a part number on it. The end of the stand does tuck nicely behind the chainstay though.

In reality the KS is no different from the ground to the BB and chain stays are the same as any other middle weight so a Typhoon sprag should work. When I get some time I will check my KS and will try to remove sprag from it and another middle weight. I know the later cruiser sprags were different as they had 26 x 2.125 tires. I thought I recalled the KS sprag being slightly longer. Should this topic get a different thread as to not clog up this one? Lots of clogging either way.

Welcome! Thank you to @irideiam for initiating this thread! I am simply the new caretaker.
If you possess a rare taller Schwinn King Size (20" seat tube) middleweight cantilever complete or frame and would like to be added to the registry let us know. Only made from 1962-1965 in short production runs, which is already noticeable in the list compiled thus far. A few of us here are obsessed with learning a more detailed history of the model, so please add any knowledge to this post as well. I'll do my best to keep the list updated regularly. I look forward to the knowledge share. Last updated 12/16/2025 - 88 KS bikes/frames registered...

Years and models produced:
King Size American (KSA) 1962-1964 (includes late 61 frame dates for 62 year model)
King Size American Heavy Duty (KSAHD) 1962-1963 (includes late 61 frame dates for 62 year model)
King Size Heavy Duti (KSHD) 1964*-1965 ("King Size" naming not on chain guard)

*The late 1964 frame serial stampings were used on the new 1965 KSHD production and there were no actual 1964 model year KSHD bicycles. Though they may have had a dropout stamped in late October 64, the dates associated with the serial numbers is the date that part was made and stamped with a serial.

Note: I have made the registry spreadsheet an image, so you can save it if you'd like. Enjoy!

Differences between the 18'' standard cantilever (top frame) and the 20" KS (bottom frame) can be found below:

I was bored today so I started looking for information on a bicycle I bought at a garage sale years ago. It’s a 1962 schwinn American king size heavy duty. Bought from the original owners estate all original except the tires. Would possibly like to add it to your registry
