These were probably the rarest pre war balloon tires I've owned. They were Captain Midnight tires sold thru Skelly Oil.

They debuted on 12-14-1939 and were sold as a premium for the Captain Midnight radio show which was sponsored by Skelly Oil. Ovaltine took over sponsorship of the show in March 1940 so these tires were only available for a short time.
They were sold with orange inner tubes in an orange box with the Captain Midnight logo.
The tubes in mine were shot but were marked Pharis Tire Co. who probably also made the tires for Skelly Oil.

Regarding Captain Midnight tires and tubes, Scott pointed out this old posting to me which I find interesting...

I still have a set of tubes NOS in the box. And I still have my Captain Midnight Secret Decoder Badge. The fictional Captain Midnight character was a war hero and advanced airplane pilot. He had his own modern chemistry lab/airbase/landing strip high in the mountains above a big city (coincidentally like Los Angeles).

It was one of my favorite radio shows and favorite TV show in the 1950s. Like the Little Orphan Annie Show that was also sponsored by Ovaltine, the Captain Midnight shows also gave out "secret codes" to the kids in the audience. You had to use your secret decoder to reveal the special messages (usually telling you what the next show would be about).

I also had a model of Captain Midnight's jet plane (looked like a Bell X-1 but with swept-back wings) for many years. But no idea what happened to my model. And I still remember how to make a "Tut Special" from Ovaltine. Managed to shatter a drinking glass as a kid while making a "Tut Special."

At one time there was a plan to produce a Captain Midnight bicycle, but as far as I know, this never happened.
