Yeah that site doesn’t decode pre 49 numbers well. F is usually 40 but it’s got 41 fenders and the 40 DX model used a different guard. The number may fall late in the production year and have been sold in 41.

I was wondering that. Is there a decoder key that breaks the numbers down?

This breakdown of prewar numbers is pretty reliable but crowdsourced. It came from a members website.

Are you sure the girl's Schwinn is 1948? I thought they introduced S-2 rims in 1948, and the chain wheel looks like a black-out piece.

Never sure of anything but the serial number came up September 48.

Finished (almost) the Aerocycle I got this spring. Happy with how it has turned out. I surprised myself with how nice the tank turned out. I distressed it with some light sanding and I’m debating about doing more but I’m good for now. Any suggestions on what wire I should use to wire up the light and horn?
