This is great news!. If it wasn't for Rudy and Main Street Bicycles, there would be no shows or swaps in Illinois. Years ago, we used to have many, with lots of attendance. The hobby seems to be really"alive" here on the CABE, but is it really? If you are able to attend, let's make this swap a good one!......................................................................................................................................................................................... [edit] 1/4/26 Sorry, kind of forgot about the other two shows. The Algonqin show is put on by Rudy. He usually has two and sometimes three swaps / shows per year . The locations vary. The Addison park district used to be the big one. I loved it. It got moved to a smaller location, Strat's Drive-in in Villa Park, but Strat's is gone. He still holds one in Bensinville and last fall had one at another town up north. I give Rudy lots of credit, finding places each year to hold his events. He always has music playing, awards for the show bikes and contests. Guys are usually unloading and BSing there at 6 am, but the show kicks off at 9:00 sharp after he plays the National Anthem. God bless him. His going fee for a generous outdoor spot is only $20. The Rockford show and swap is mostly Krates, BMX and other "modern" bikes. It's held indoors at a Holiday Inn and spaces are limited. Reserved in advance at $50 each. Older stuff shows up there, but not a lot. A ton of ballooner bikes and parts used to show up there, with guys selling bikes out of their trucks or set up in the side parking lot, but the hotel put the brakes on that. Because it's November, it's always pretty cold at that show, so any outdoor selling was by motivated sellers. That was good. As far as Blue Moon's Kratefest show/swap in Sycamore , Ill. it's for Krates , but everything shows up at the swap. This past year, with Matt passing away, I didn't think it was going to happen. Rumor was it might be moved north to Wisconsin. Blue Moon came through and it was a good one and still held at the usual location. We used to Have a nice big swap in Dolton, but after 20-some consecutive years, Eddie Boros bit the dust and his huge swap ended. A nice swap was started in Elgin, ill. The second year it grew and looked like it was going to continue, but old Tim went and had a heart attack and he died. That ended that swap..... CABER, Bikeman76 held the best show and swap ever. For 2, maybe 3 years he held it in an immense parking lot across the road from his bike shop. It was the biggest swap ever. Later, he had it on his own property, next to his store. Because of high Illinois taxes, he ended up selling the big parking lot and that swap ended. There's lots of B.S. tossed in the way of swap promoters. Liability insurance costs for a one day event. Permit from the village. Neighboring stores and residents complaining about parking. We're lucky to have any.

The problem is that this swap is 9 days before two of the oldest & biggest bicycle show & swap meets. Memory Lane, Bowling Green, Ohio & Monroe Ant. & Classic Bicycle Show & Swap, Monroe, Michigan.
Also, Illinois has several bicycle shows & swap meets ... Kratefest, Sycamore, IL (Sept) ... Chicagoland, (Fall), Algonquin, IL (Oct.) ... Rockford Swap, Rockford, IL (Nov.)

That’s to funny I was just telling a friend about Addison earlier and others they used to have

This is a great swap! Been going a few years now and always have a good time. I brought a DX and road the trail last year. Hhhmmm what will I bring this year? Maybe I'll load up the truck and sell some stuff...cheap. It's a great place to have a swap, but could use a porta potty or two, I recall a line forming to use the head inside the bike shop. Cool bike shop too.
