Sturmey did make 36 hole dynohubs for a number of years. Most GH6 (front) dynohubs found in the US today came on post-war Raleigh 3 speed bikes, so most 36 hole GH6 hubs in the US today date to the period after 1973, when Raleigh moved to 36-36 from the traditional 40-32.
Sturmey Archer also made 36 hole GH6 hubs in the 1950s. Quite a few were sold to Schwinn, particularly for the deluxe Traveler model bikes in the first half of the 1950s. They are harder to find than the 1970s era GH6 hubs, but not impossible to find. GH6 hubs from 1952 and earlier should have the black terminal cover. At some point in 1952, they began the GH6 hubs with the matte silver metal cover to replace the black plastic. The black early type plastic was known for cracking around the terminals.
