What is the average cost to ship a bike?

I was wondering what the average cost to ship and who do you use? When I used to ship it was around $100 a bike. The last bike I bought was shipped in 2 boxes and cost $300.

There is a size hack for bicycle shipping boxes. The last bike I shipped coast-to-coast, insured, using PirateShip cost $125.94 (52 lbs. box 54" x 29" x 9"). I took the time to modify the bicycle box in both length and height. Even with the length modification, if the box were unshortened and just 1" taller, the shipping would have been $196.42. Modifying the box takes about a half hour to do right, but it’s so worth it for the buyer.

Another thing to watch for are any bulges in the box. This is why people get charges after shipping because the lasers used for measuring will look at the widest/longest dimensions which can change your DIM .

So much has changed since I last shipped a bike, I used to use BikeFlights but I last heard they switch to UPS and raised their rates.
