Though a post was started here by Todd, @srfndoc, I'm also going to add on this thread since a few of us hooked up for a days ride.

One year ago, my wife and I went to our first ever SoCal ride, during the ’22 November’s CycloneCoaster swap and ride. We were back again for ’23. There were a few reasons why we came down, and one of them was being able to spend additional day of riding along the coast trail/boardwalk with some friends, the day before the swap and ride. I reached out to Mark @tripple3 and asked if he wanted to do a ride Saturday morning. Extended an invitation to a few others, and we had an incredibly fun day. Weather was fantastic. Huntington Beach at Brookhust to Woody’s in Sunset Beach for brunch and back

After we separated from Todd and Robin, returning to our starting point, we were asked what our plans were afterwards. We wanted to ride to Newport Beach since we are here already, and plus, we haven’t ridden our bikes there before, I told Marty. We were very happy Marty @cyclingday and Mark @tripple3 wanted to go as well. It was like having a VIP tour for Mercedes and me.

A stretch of the trail where we should have a view of the ocean, per Marty @cyclingday and many others.

To our surprise, Mercedes and me, Marty and Mark wanted to take us to Balboa Island. We were thrilled. I've seen pics of Tony's @The Hat COBOA at Balboa ride gathering. Absolutely beautiful day.

We all agreed to get ice cream on the island. So as we rode up to Sugar and Spice, popular ice cream stand known for its frozen bananas & hand-dipped Balboa bars, there was a long line. Then we see just three buildings away was another ice cream place with no line, Dad's Original.

Not so much as looking at the different flavors of ice cream, but more on the old pictures of history on the island.

Very grateful for these two gentleman for hosting us for the day. Like I said in Todd's thread, epic day for Mercedes and me. Hard to beat a day like today, with beautiful weather riding along side local knowledge on our vintage bikes. Days like this, we will be back again. Thank you Marty, Mark and Todd @srfndoc (not pictured) for an amazing day.

We’ll end it with this last pic, sunset at HB.

@Eddie_Boy it was great meeting you and Mercedes at the Coaster ride last Sunday. I'm sorry that I missed this beach ride but had a conflict.
Your pictures and account of this ride is awesome. @cyclingday is a great local historian. It's always fun to learn about local stuff and Marty is a great story teller! And he's either planted or had a hand in planting several of the trees and plants along the way.
I feel very lucky to be able to ride here when I visit and these guys are great hosts and always willing to ride. It's mandatory to me to do a beach ride when I visit and this ride is hard to beat anywhere! I'm glad that you and Mercedes were able to do that.

We hooked up with my friend Armando at Jim "Legend" shop this past weekend. Was looking for smalls for a project, plus just wanted to stop by and see Jim @JAF/CO. Thanks Jim for the goodies, and for letting us hangout for a bit with you.

Looks like Jim has the same constraints that I do, way to many bikes and not enough space for them all. That's fine, strlorage units are cheap enough. RideOn. Mark.

Met this gentleman, Ricky, on the pier and noticed his cool klunker build. Super light with prewar Schwinn C Model front with BMX style rear stays. Killer build.
