I decided to pass on that one, it's also cracked and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable riding on it after so much repair work was done. The search continues.
 
Another possibility and possibly (most likely) stupid question........

I ran across this photo on another site and was wondering if anyone had done this with success and what the ride quality was like? I did contact the owner of the bike in the photo but he never got past the mock-up stage with it like that. It certainly looks cooler (IMO at least) with the kicked out front end. I was kind of trying to avoid a Schwinn springer (yawn) just because everyone else has one but maybe it's not a bad idea:

I’ve done it. It works just fine after you get used to the way it steers. Had mine set up like this for about 20 years and no problems.
