So if I am reading correctly, your idea is that "Maroon" in the chart in the cases of the flamboyent trim bikes should instead be "Dark Red", and "Violet" should be "Opal Violet"?

I'm not in any rush to edit the list. I just want this to be a dedicated area for the info and differences of what existed for these Continentals.

To clarify, there is Dark Red for the early bikes without the Flamboyant trim decals, Opalescent Maroon for the bikes with Flamboyant trim decals before 1954, and then Opal(escent) Violet starting in 1954 and continuing on into part of 1964.

I agree with trying to gather these bikes in a centralized place for reference. Doing a bunch of CABE/Google searches is kind of a pain. Sometimes the same bike will have multiple threads, or you'll get duplicate photos in several threads, which also makes it tougher. The more we can pull together and document, the better.

On my A01007 serial continental, you have it listed as a 49. The bike did come with all the documentation as well as the registration card and license plate which was dated 1947. So, I am fairly certain that 47 should be correct for the year. Also, just to give a heads up, I am also the new owner of herrotto’s early blue continental as well as another early maroon one that isn’t in the list yet. I did purchase it from another cabe member. I’ll post some pics and grab the serial. It is a K serial for sure though.

I'm glad to see that there is an actual non-Opalescent Maroon callout. ...and that the Motor Models had their own Dark Maroon paint even. Sorry, I was hasty making the Dark Red generalization in the process of showing what colors existed at the same time in the 54 catalog.
This still doesn't make my bike or the others of that shade any more Red or non-Opalescent!! We can still debate the year of my frame though, the rear hub is a 1949 and Brampton didn't designate months, so not sure how it got bumped up a year on the list other than it having a silver base coat under the Opalescent(transparent) Maroon.

Thanks. I haven't forgotten about the list, just very busy at work the past few days. I'll update the list as soon as I get a chance. Would be interested in seeing more photos of the early Continental two posts above.
