Hi!

I recently obtained a 1966 Schwinn Stingray Coppertone 5-Speed and I want to do some restoration work on it. It has a little bit of rust and just needs some touch ups. Does anybody have any tips and tricks or suggestions for me? There is also one other problem, the crank arm is cross threaded now and when I got the bike it had no pedals on it. When I attempted to put the pedal one I noticed the problem. Does anybody have any good solutions for this? I know there are kits you can get but the tool are expensive. Do many bike shops offer a service to fix this (I'm in Colorado)? Or should I just crank it in? I'm not fully dedicated to keeping the bike completely original, but the bike is sentimental to me so I want to retain what I can.

I'll attach a picture of the bike, but sadly I could not get a good picture of the threading.

I also own a 1968 Schwinn Fairlady and I need a new flat back tire, does anybody have any reasonably priced places that I could find this?

Thank you!

As stated, there is a reasonable selection on Ebay for the 1966 Schwinn crank.
The rear tire for your Schwinn Fair Lady is size 20" x 1 3/4" to fit S-7 rim, there are many on Ebay as well.

Try threading the pedal in from the back (inboard) side of the crank arm. By the time the end of the pedal reaches the messed-up threads by coming in from the opposite direction, it will be well-seated in the good threads, and should be able to force the crossed threads back into alignment.

P.S. Add a little oil to the threaded hole of the crank arm before beginning this.
