Finally riding a big boys bike
Hello, new to me this am. Have always been a Schwinn guy, never have seen one of these. Bought from daughter of original owner. She was pretty confident he brought it home from dealer like this except seat has been replaced. The springer and drum brakes got me on this one. From other posts, sounds like dealer installed options. Fork has the S stamped on each side. Rides fantastic. Would anyone know what original seat would have been used? Thank you.

The springer and fenders were most likely added at the Dealers. Original Schwinn (Approved) Components. Early model 1980 so there is a good chance the seat wasn't the Messinger. You hardly ever see them today equipped with these seats.

Somethingm funky going on with the springer. There should not be washers inside of the fork legs and the pivot bolt looks odd. Be sure the pivot bolt is correct as they are very specific in size and not something that can be found at a hardware store. From what I see the bolt is wrong.

The Shimano Positron stem shifter was never designed to work with a Schwinn Spring Fork. Just look at the cable interference. You need to remove the Spring Fork and use the original fork which was drilled for a front caliper brake, or at least change the shifter to the Positron Thumb Shifter. No front brake is a big loss in braking power, and the rear Atom drum brakes do not work that well.

I would have serious doubts that the bike went out of a dealership with those "incompatible parts" installed.

The reason you do not see those Troxel seats on old Cruiser bikes is because they all bent. The seat frames bent sideways. They copied an old seat design but without the quality.

I'm not so sure the 5 speed ever came with that seat. I thought that seat was only on the coaster cruiser and Deluxe.

I believe the seat you are looking for is the same seat that @birdzgarage just posted on his Klunker 5 in the other Cruiser 5 thread. I will tag you on it.
