Scary! This is old enough to be considered vintage now! 😀

1996 GT Outpost that I received as an Xmas/early college graduation gift from my folks in December 1995. I think the Outpost was 2nd from the bottom, above the Outpost Trail. It's more of a hybrid with fat tires than a real mountain bike. I used it mostly on paths and light trails, paved roads, etc.

Used to ride this bike daily when I was in college and at night when I started working. Put many thousands of miles on it, at least over 8,000 miles. Went through at least 3 chains/cassettes. The old Rapid Fire shifters work when they feel like it. LOL

The computer was installed the day I picked the bike up and still works. In 1997, it was subject to the Shimano crank recall and a new Acera X crank replaced the OEM one. The Altus brakes had cheap plastic collars around the springs. When they cracked, the cantis were essentially non-functional. I replaced them with period correct Alivio cantis. A new WTB saddle and Cheng Shin tires that closely resemble the original tires round it out. Everything else is original from the factory.

This one has little value, but lots of memories and sentimental value for me.

My 1981 Ritchey Everest at the local park, October, 2022. TA cranks, Huret derailleurs, Campy headset, Mafac cantis w/ Magura levers Suntour Mighty's, Bullseye hubs and Ukai rims.

@tryder great photo! Love to see a close-up of that bike. Does it have "Ritchey/MountainBikes" decal? The Everest just has the "Ritchey" "Palo Alto" decals.

Apologies if I posted this one in this thread before.... 1983 Ritchey Competition at the local park in 2023. Fillet-brazed, faux lug construction, "Ritchey MountainBikes" decals, Edco Competition headset, TA anodized cranks, Phil hubs on Ukai rims, Suntour Deerhead cantis, Magura levers, Huret rear and Suntour XC front derailleurs. Original IRC Racer tires, which I only trust for short rides. They are too rare to chance.

"House Of Looptail" reintroduced Panracer Snake bellies. They are wonderful.

It's the Hutch pedals and T.A. cranks that do it for me...oh and you know, all of that fillet brazing!

So true! Ritchey is an artist with a brazing torch. All of his frames are works of art. Do you know which Hutch pedals these are? I'm not that familiar with BMX stuff, but I used to hear about Tritons? They are the best pedals I've ever used - they spin forever.

The original owner of the Competition popped up on the CABE and shared a lot of the bike's history. He ordered it from Charlie Kelly/Gary Fisher and it spent most of its life in Vermont. I'm the third owner - he sold it in 1999 to a lady antiques dealer in (I think) Burlington, and I purchased it from her the same year through Ebay.

Thanks! The Snake Bellies were great tires. There was also a Panracer tire that looked a lot like the original Stumpjumper tires

I do not.

1982 might have been a transition year between the Palo Alto and MountainBikes decals. My Everest could be an '82, but based on the serial number "1630R" and the other bikes listed on the Vintage Ritchey website, I took it to be an '81. Maybe "1" is the year and "630" could be the 630th frame.
