This is off a 1946 new world. From a shop in San Jose that also sold baby buggies and other wheeled toys. Desmone's cycle and toy shop. Google maps brought this current photo of the building.

This eventually changed to "Desimone's Cycles and Mopeds" and occupied 81 S 2nd Street shown below. My brother started working there in the late 70's, and then I worked there for many years through highschool (until 1983) and then my younger brother worked there for another 2 years. Elliott and Betty Ann Chandler owned the business all the years that I was there, and then many beyond. Elliott passed away quite some time ago, but Betty Ann, who was born in 1917, was still alive in 2017 as she celebrated her 100th birthday! https://www.facebook.com/bettyannchandler100/

Their son Bruce had a "sister" shop which was also called Desimone's in another part of town. I don't remember much about the location, but their head mechanic was "Comso", which I though was the coolest name. I think Bruce was married to Athene.

I didn't realize it at the time, but they were very special people to take a chance on hiring young teenagers to work for them. We stayed in touch with them for many years exchanging Christmas cards. I still have tools which I bought when I worked there. Some of my old patch kits still have the Desimone's price sticker on them.

-----

shop best known to the larger world as the producer of the Desimone's repair stand

prior to the launch of Park shops pretty much either had an ELDI or a Desimone's

funny anecdote -

in 1977 visited the going out of business sale of a shop located in one of the eastside Sacramento suburbs such as Orangevale

spoke with the proprietress who proudly pointed out the Desimone's they had for sale proclaiming "yes, it was made in Iowa, you can see the Des Moines name"

I have headbadge for a DeSimones San Jose "Golden West" bike- no bike attached, but it has a 1920's-1930s look to it. Local legend has that they were very active in the bay area velodromes.
