All you people using gas and diesel and kerosene, how do you dispose of it when you're done? You can't just pour it down the drain or in the gutter. What do you do with it? I have jars of used motor oil that I have no idea what to do with, do you just have jars of dirty gas laying around?

I use Simple Green, safe, effective, no horrible fumes, and you dump it down the drain when you're done. Soak overnight and a good scrub under running water to rinse and it comes out perfectly degreaser every time.

Gasoline evaporates quickly outside. Take your motor oil to a recycling center.

The dirtier they get I incorporate carb cleaner or brake cleaner.
Me, too. I've been using carb and intake cleaner (spray can) from Walmart. Officially you should not spray it on plastics, but that hasn't been an issue for me since the metal components are all apart and by themselves anyway.

I don't spray it directly on the part, since the spray goes everywhere and gets wasted. Instead I squirt a shot into a shop cloth or paper towel and use that to wipe off the grime. For the really crud-encased parts such as calipers and bearings, I spray a quantity into a metal soup can, drop the parts in and carefully swish them around. It cleans things up very quickly and they air-dry in a couple of minutes.

Note that the stuff is flammable and evaporates fast, so you need to do this either outdoors or in an open garage. Don't breathe the fumes.

for degreaser I use 'purple power' or formula 88 when I can find it. purple power at present.. sorry.. acetone & transmission fluid is for breaking rusted parts. about to do that to a stem. standby for pics in the what are you working on thread.. :) love to all!
