Hi @WarbirdPatrick

Some saddle measurements.

Overall rail length 8"
Rear rail width (to external face) 4 1/2"
Width of frame saddle clamp section (to external face) 1 3/8"
Frame height insaddle clamp section 1 1/8" This reduces to 7/8" at the nose of the frame, and 3/4" at the tail of the frame.

I hope this helps,

Best Regards,

Adrian, thank you very much. Do you know of anyone who has an original seat they would part with for the restoration of MG88243? The frame should be here Tuesday!

Hi Patrick @WarbirdPatrick

The frames are now difficult to find on the loose. The one I just measured, I had to buy a 'Tribute' bike in the US to break for the original parts that the previous owner had used when creating it.

It did occur to me whilst meauring that, if have the springs and pans, the actual flat steel part of the frame would be easy to laser cut and fold..

And if you are able to do that, perhaps see if there's a demand for them, sell four or five, and get yours free. (-:

Best Regards,

Adrian

Adrian, I did find a correct womans seat with crash tabs minus the bag tabs. I'm open to trading this plus cash for a correct men's. I know there is someone out here that would. Just need to locate them!

Ok guys and gals, cats out of the bag! Will be making one long post with questions and of course, the photo dump. Since starting this project my original intent has been to make a beautiful G519 replica for the Warbirds Of Glory museum since no original bikes for restoration were around. I am proud to say I will not only be building the replica still but as well as restoring MG88243 / J9 using all the original G519 NOS parts I have collected from the great people off this forum. First off here are the pictures of the original G519 frame.

Now for the parts being used in the restoration! So far have collected the following:
NOS Rear G519 Fender
NOS Delta G519 Headlight
NOS G519 Handle Bars
NOS G519 Chain
NOS Set of blacked out Torrington #8 Pedals with original wooden inserts.
NOS in box Chain Guard (Will start a discussion about this later)
Kevin's reproduction hand grips
Coffin style Chainring
Columbia Truss rods and brackets with bolt
Columbia front fork (Stem will need to be shortened, but have questions below)
Rear reflector (Have questions below)
Crank (Have questions bellow)

Now for the questions that I need help with from the masters!!!!!

Question #1: I have two types of rear reflectors. Which one is correct for a 1942 G519. The LH or RH one?

Question #2: I have two appearance correct kickstands. Both differ on the stand itself with end length. Which would be more correct longer or shorter?

Question #3: How do you date these two cranks and which one has the correct bearing races and nuts:

First one has the markings A8 on one side an a J on the other:

Second One: This one has a 3R stamp on the bearing race and what appears to be OF on the crank.

428383155_771032554563801_6238923936560532595_n.jpg

Last Question for now: Stem bearing hardware. I have 3 types of upper bearing races as well as two types of nuts. Which do you believe is correct?
423600166_789845796513489_2664743917682240041_n.jpg
Notice the two nuts on the LH side have a lower nut profile
423766408_771489624898342_7913125269988460611_n.jpg
From top to bottom, Straight cut, Tapered to the LH side, Tapered to the RH Side.

Few.... that was a long post but thank you all again. If all goes will I should have an original set of wheels and tires coming to the restoration. Still need to get an original seat and seat frame.

Hello;
Good returns.
Rear reflector : RH= Columbia
LH= Huffman
Kickstand: longer= 26"
shorter= 24"
For shortening the fork and your bearing nuts, look at those mounted on your original frame MG88243.

Serge, the fork and bearing nuts are not original to MG88243. The fork appears to be schwinn. That is why I got the replacement Columbia fork. Here is a picture looking at the bottom of the fork.

Would anyone be willing to take and post pictures of the frame measurements of the tube lengths? We do have a full machine CNC shop so making parts is not an issue if we have an example. Would like to make the brackets for the truss rods.

I did send an email off to Al Berger so see if he had any parts left of dimensional data.
If you ever end up making that lower truss bracket, I'd sure like to get my hands on one!
