Hello;
For my part, the head badge is a civilian after war, but that's just my opinion.
Regards;
Serge
Serge, I am learning that now :( any chance you have one that could be scanned? I have the ability to get these remade if I had a good scanner with a ruler next to the badge. Would require the badge to be flattened though.

Hi All,

Following up posts 23 and 24 by @Welbike about the large number of G519 unissued handlebars.

I mention in the post that I thought I'd seen it mentioned they were found in a lift shaft.

This may be the post from Bill @Aerocycle36 I was thinking of, which I've just come across again.

Those green torrington bars that are being passed off as cycle truck bars are NOT cycle truck bars. I've had several dozen sets of them and when I bought them from my supplier, they were still wrapped in bundles of either 4 or 5 bars and were labeled as M-38 Columbia Westfield handlebars. Although they look similar to cycletruck bars they are definitely different. Just a side note, my parts supplier had an elevator shaft in their warehouse half full of these things and I was buying them for 2 dollars a pair. I think their remaining stock of them was bought out by BicycleBones.

I wonder if Bill can tell us more about the origins?

Best Regards,

Adrian

Handlebars

Large quantities of these were available from EBAY and other sources from at least 2016. Does anyone know the original source?

For Col. Military Bicycle MG69
Piece No. US-11
Item No. 55 List #122
Contract W-478-ORD-3418
The Westfield Mfg. Co..
Westfield, Mass.

Although I can find no note of this contract, (Contracts under $50,000 were not recorded) I know Westfield had the following contracts:

So, Contract W-478-ORD-3418 was probably issued June 1943, or slightly before.

In the mid 90’s before they moved to Grand Rapids all the way until they auctioned in 2018 Larry and Harv @Memory Lane had a huge quanity of these bars and i can remember packages of grips at the old store in Perrysburg the bars people were buying for cycle trucks but they were drab green. They also had boxes of pedal blocks.
