Again to come and comment.. Top Muscle bike! Ugly is COOL! RARE is an understatement. This is the type of bike real collectors should be after.. Blows my mind when its "Schwinn, Schwinn, Schwinn" when there are bikes like these out here! As a collector I want what no one else has.. Not what everyone has. But, Hey, thats just me ! I LOVE the WILD and RARE !!!!!!

Lots of very cool rare bikes that aren't ugly & not Schwinn's

I grew up in mid-western Pennsylvania during the '60's, and every kid I knew, including myself, was blown away by the Schwinn Krate series. The look, the quality and the colors were it. My parents had a Sears charge account so I ended up with a '68 Sears Screamer, then a Screamer 2 with a mag wheel. Both bikes were really cool and I appreciated them, but they weren't in the same league with the Krates. As adult bike collectors, we appreciate the rare and unique models as a collectible, but I know the kids in my neighborhood wouldn't have been caught dead on that Bandito! Many years back, my collection consisted of nothing but non-Schwinn high rise bikes, most of them n.o.s., and I only had one Iverson piece. It was a coaster brake Dragstripper in orange. Even next to the Murrays, MTD's, Columbias, etc, the Iverson was so cheaply made with stickers instead of decals and frame welds like bubble gum. The seat was super shiny and looked like it would fall apart if you sat on it. It was a great collectible, but probably not on a kid's wish list in 1970. To each his own.
Cheers, Mike (kostnerave)

Many have forgotten the times, these Barris bicycles are like "The Munsters" or "Adams Family" of the times, when weird was Kool!

Ahh, those were the days in the 50’s, 60’s when I would go with my Dad in our Chevrolet station wagon to the Sears store in Springfield, Illinois.
Dad would go for tools and I would take off to the sporting goods area to gaze at the BB and pellet guns, but no bicycles.
I had a used Raleigh bike and eventually we went to our Schwinn store in ‘66 to get a Violet J39 ….. Yes!

The Schwinn frames are extremely tough, unlike some of those other brands that look crimped together. I would fear that type of bike would fall apart going over a cattle guard.

If you grew in up the 60's to early 70's or you watched the Munsters / Adams Family or the Monkeys you never forget those times of Hot Cars, Girl friends Muscle Bikes etc. Schwinn Krates were the dream bikes! The other cool bikes, Huffy "The Wheel" Sears Screamer, Murray Eliminator were all bikes my friends had but those Schwinn Krates were BOSS man. None of us even knew of or saw a Barris bike.
