Waterland

Finally riding a big boys bike
After months of searching, I finally acquired this Ace Stores badge. I plan to build an Ace Hardware themed bike to occasionally display in the Ace store I work at. I can't find any info or ads for Ace Stores badged bikes, does anyone know which manufacturers built bikes for Ace, or which frame this badge might fit so i could figure out a starting point for my build? I plan to franken bike it from parts of the general era this badge was in use. The Ace Stores logo on the badge was used by Ace Hardware from approximately 1931 to 1950 according to an infographic in my store, although its also similar to an earlier logo from the 1920s. The hole spacing on the badge is approximately 1 1/2 inches. The side mounted holes makes me think 1930's Monark. Is this a reliable way to determine which frame it would have gone with? Anyone who has a complete Ace Stores badged bike I could use for reference would be great, or if anyone is able to track down any Ace ads from the 1920's through the 1950's with bicycles, that would also be helpful. Info on Ace bikes is very hard to come by. Thanks for your help, im excited to get going on this project.

Hi! I was going to build and ACE bike for my Sister who has a couple stores in Southern, IN. Anyway, she didn't ask for it and isn't that into bikes, so I figured I'd not pursue it too far. However, the bikes that I have found photos of on the internet were Monarks. Good luck with the project and I hope you keep us posted with some build pics!

Awesome, Monark was my first inclination, thanks for the pictures! Here is the graphic with the old Ace logos i mentioned, i was mistaken about some of the dates. Late 30's lines up with the logo style and the bikes shown here. Super excited for this build.

Alright, finally found my donor bike, a super crusty late prewar Monark. I really like the Invader badge thats on it, but I'll be putting the Ace Badge i have on and save the Invader badge. Going to take a lot of work, a full teardown and complete restore but this will be the basis for my Ace Stores bike.

Already started the teardown. The crank was frozen solid, a few good blows with a hammer loosened it up. Lots of PB Blaster and heat needed to loosen the lock ring. Im dreading the stem and seatpost. Going to do an oxalic acid bath to derust, most of the original paint is gone, but its getting a repaint anyway. I'll start a build thread soon to update my progress.
