'Lil Knee Scuffer
Hello, new to the group and to the vintage Schwinn bikes.
I'm getting ready to restore a 1966 Deluxe Typhoon. I'm wanting to keep it original, so hopefully it will clean-up after sitting for many years.
Questions are, did the Deluxe Typhoon use painted or chrome fenders and rims? If fenders were painted, did they have yhe painted white tails on one end of the fenders?, or were they just striped on the sides from end to end? (Please see picture).
The bike is red, so the seat and handlebar grips would be red, is that correct?
Thank you everyone so much for your help, very much appreciated!

I believe the Deluxe Typhoons I have seen all had black chubby grips on them...not that anyone would knock you for having a less common translucent red or glitter grip. Thinking it was 67 when they switched to chrome fenders. Note that the fenders you have pictured there are a solid Light Red. Your Typhoon was offered in a candy(transparent tint over silver) red, or Flamboyant Red as the catalog shows for color options. They would have had a white pin stripe, minus the tails.

Thank you for the reply! The picture of fenders are ones that are for sale. Fenders I have on my bike have the pin stripe without the tails, so I should have the correct ones. Yes, I will stay with my painted fenders. Later this spring I would like to replace my s-7 rims for nicer ones, but bike is just for me cruisin around the neighborhood.

The good news is, the side stamped version of the S7 that should be on your bike will be readily available as compared to the 65 models or 64 and earlier. You will just have to respoke the 67 stamped 3sp hub to maintain originality, possibly the Schwinn script front hub..

Good to know, thank you.
Bike has the yellow 2 speed kickback, assuming this is the original correct hub...
