Well, you got the capital letters right this time at least...
You know it's seeds like this that start the false claims you complain about right? Lol
The Schwinn Specifications Catalog Sheets for the ... Spitfire/Cali./ Klunker/Cruiser bicycle years 1977- '80, do NOT have the number "5" listed after the model name in any of the Catalog Title(s).
Model Number listed as ... CC5-5 SPITFIRE ... signifies the speed version & model name.

1976 Schwinn enters the "Balloon Beach Cruiser" Trend ... model named : Schwinn CALIFORNIA CRUISER
Renamed and introduced in 1977 as Schwinn SPITFIRE.
1978 Schwinn + KLUNKER 5 ,,, introduced July/Aug. 1978 ... produced until the year end.
*1979 renamed Schwinn SPITFIRE / SPITFIRE 5
*1980 renamed SCHWINN CRUISER/ CRUISER 5

Here's a photo of that red, men's "Schwinn + KLUNKER" coaster brake.
Someone took all the 5 speed items off? ... Hp593051 ... Bdg # 3138 ... November 9, 1978

But they were a little careless as they left the yellow "wet rims" warning decal on it which would only be on a 5 speed because of the caliper brakes.

But the seller of this bike claimed to have had this bike "AUTHENTICATED" as an actual factory built single speed KLUNKER, but never provided the authentication documentation! He even made that claim in their recent Ebay listing! This bike was also posted here in the past, and he made those same claims. I tried contacting the shop via email a few times where he allegedly had it authenticated, and I never got a response from them?????

The bike now has a new owner, and he is now posting a new set of false claims about the bike on FB........................LOL

I’ve read the new owners postings on Facebook and he is not making false claims. And he knows what he has.

Agreed, AND in the hasty conversion........they left the -5 drilled fork, on the bike that was converted to a -6 coaster brake.

There's nothing wrong converting bikes from one model to another, dealers did it every day. It's just not something you can represent as "factory original".

There were 3 things on the bike in question that indicated it was a KLUNKER 5

The fork with the mounting hole for the front brake, the wet rims warning sticker, and the chainring that had the knurling on it indicating it was for the narrow chain the the 5 speeds used. I see the bike still has that chainring, and it will end up wearing excessively when used with the standard single speed chain!

And I agree there is nothing wrong with customizing bikes! Back in the day when I was building these bikes I customized lots of them, and actually hated leaving bikes bone stock. So whenever a customer asked for custom options, I was all over it!!!!!

Here is a custom 3 speed Cruiser I built for myself about 7 years ago now.
