Riding a '38 Autocycle Deluxe
Trying to roll with the punches of life... losing a great resource in a shop space where I worked on the bike stuff.
As the clock ticks to 'get outta Dodge' I am maybe? cranking out the last of the restorations on my Schwinn pile
in a timely esque manner. Will also be downsizing some nice originals eventually... Here's a recent build.
1952 Schwinn Red Phantom. I'm guessing that these days not many builders can put these restos together
at this level, w/regards to NOS parts and original equipment.
This bike glows...it also rules! Pix were a cloudy day...so red looks darker..I tried to brighten up some with the pics tools.
Fully restored bike.
Automotive paint acry/eurothane, chrome, nickel and cadmium plating where it was designated originally.
NOS beautiful red grips, NOS USA Typhoon tires, NOS early 50's taillight ...
Front drum brake ...locking springer with original key...Gorgeous Dave Stromberger Excelsior Restored headbadge....
beautifully restored "AS" pedals ...restored seat... well everything here is restored if not NOS...
so pix should answer any questions.
To do the work restoring an old Schwinn like this...materials, labor, parts, build...bike itself to start with...
to add it up in realistic money terms would come out to significantly more than the asking price.
If you can get a Phantom like this done at this level for less? I'd love to meet the builder.
Saddens me to see maybe the end of this sort of passion of mine ending... that being said?
find me an industrial space in LA 1000 sq feet or so... affordable? and I'm back in the game.
Watch for others coming down the pike. Will be cranking out some other restos....F/S ...
4k for the bike. shipping extra...

...for the record.... I realize a large % of the people here on the CABE are 'seasoned' collectors...and potentially Not buyers
for a restored bike like this... But I do believe strongly that we as ollectors and people who love and respect the manufacturing/design prowess this once great country produced especially in the machine age/streamlined design elements of the bicycle industry of mid century, there should be a much broader market for the 'nice' or 'pretty' stuff in the world at large.
There's a huge market for 'finery' or luxury goods, art, collectibles etc. beyond our tiny sphere or market place. I know it exists as I have, on rare occasions, 'tapped in to it'. Plus...you never know who's perusing our forum from time to time. Thanks for the kind words on the red bike... big effort building and creating stuff like this..and still enjoyable for me. Appreciate the recognition!
